Subscribe to Midjourney Membership
How do I subscribe?
You can subscribe on Midjourney's server, or in the Midjourney Bot chat window, by typing /subscribe and hitting enter at
The Bot will then send this message and you will be taken to the payment page by clicking on the Open subscription button:
The payment process is relatively simple, so I won't go into it here, except to note that Midjourney's payment feature uses a service provider called Stripe, which currently only supports credit card payments, so you need a credit card if you want to buy a membership.
What are the differences between the packages?
Basic Plan | Standard Plan | Pro Plan | |
---|---|---|---|
Monthly payment pric | $10 / month | $30 / month | $60 / month |
Yearly payment pric | $8 / month | $24 / month | $48 / month |

Concurrent Fast Jobs | 3 | 3 | 12 |

First of all, Midjourney's billing method is different from OpenAI. OpenAI charges based on tokens while Midjourney charges based on time. This is because their main cost is GPU computing and they also rent GPUs which are charged by time. Therefore, the cost is passed onto consumers based on time as well. For the Basic version, the Fast Generation takes 3 hours and 20 minutes according to the backend data, and it should be able to generate over 200 images according to official statements.
However, the GPU time consumed for each image varies depending on factors such as image quality and personalization settings. The factors that affect pricing can be found in the tutorial section about parameters. In summary, better image quality and more personalized settings result in higher prices.
Below average price | average price | above average price | |
---|---|---|---|
different task | Variations | /imagine | Upscale |
Aspect Ratio | / | default | tall or wide |
Model Version | / | default(—V 4) | —test or —testp |
Quality Parameter | --q 0.25 or —q 0.5 | default(—q 1) | —q 2 |
Stop Parameter | --stop 10 to —stop 99 | default(—stop 100) |
Then there is a mode called Relaxed Generation in the Standard Plan. Under this mode, paid users can generate unlimited images, but the speed of image generation will slow down and according to official explanations it takes 0-10 minutes.
In essence, it is a GPU idle resource queuing scheme. When switched to Relax mode, all generated image requests will enter a queued waiting state.
When no users in Fast mode are using the GPU, the GPU resources will be given to users in Relax mode. That's why you need to wait so long - it's essentially about utilizing idle resources.
Also note:
The more you use Relax mode, the longer you have to wait.
This is somewhat similar to how mobile carriers handle unlimited data plans - once your usage reaches a certain threshold, your speed gets throttled.
So if you're sharing an account with others, be aware that Fast mode operates on a first-come-first-served basis while using Relax mode frequently slows things down.
Even if you switched to Relax mode at the end of last month, at the beginning of each month the system automatically switches back to Fast Mode.
Finally there is also a Stealth Mode: Midjourney is an open community by default so any images generated on Midjourney (including those generated through private chats with bots) are public and visible in member galleries.
Only Pro version allows keeping one's own images private from Gallery view; also note that if you turn on Stealth Mode and then generate images on Midjourney Discord public channels they won't remain hidden as people who follow these channels can still see them.
